Ora J. Wetzel, 64, of Battle Creek, died Friday, July 9, 2010.
She was born December 14, 1945, the daughter of Albert W. and Lucille (Worden) Wetzel in Battle Creek.
Ora graduated from Springfield High School in 1963 and worked as a teller at Security National Bank for many years and became the branch manager of the former Postumville office. She also operated a ceramic business. When she was a child Ora worked on the family farm and nursery. In the 1970’s she served on the Springfield City Commission and was a member of the Business Breakfast Club. Ora was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and served on its Vestry; was the Altar Director from 1998 to 2008; was a member of the Altar Guild and served as an acolyte at funerals conducted at the church and served as “Lappo” the Christian Clown. She was instrumental in the church’s Holiday Baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas and loved working in the church Garth weeding and planting flowers. Ora also enjoyed tending her own garden and sharing all the produce with St. Thomas parishioners and friends. Ora also crocheted afghans to share. She played Euchre at the Coach Light Inn in Olivet with her friends and she loved her cat, Ben. Ora will be missed by the parishioners of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her brother, Rex (Joy) Wetzel of Battle Creek; nieces, Jill (Bill) Osborne of Battle Creek, Myrna (Craig) Holley of Bellevue; nephew Matt (Eun-Ji) Wetzel of Battle Creek; one great niece and two great nephews and her church family at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Visitation, 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Shaw Funeral Home. Burial Office will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with The Very Rev. Joy E. Rogers officiating. Interment, St. Thomas Episcopal Church Garth.
